$1 Dollar can make a Difference
The city council has proposed raising the city user fee from @2 to $3 which will account for an increase in revenue of about $1.5 million for the year. Mayor Wolfe said that the additional revenue would be used, specifically, for hiring four new police officers and purchasing three new police cruisers. Additionally, $300,000 of the money would be used towards repaving up to 3 miles of streets in Huntington. Of the full $3 per week fee, or apx. 4.5 million the city plans to hire seven police officers and purchase five new cruisers. Plus, a total of $800,000 would go towards road repair and we would get a new street sweeper, raising the cities total to 2.
City council has the final say on whether the fee increase will occur and, while the council is impressed with Mayor Wolfe’s vision they aren’t fully convinced yet that the fee increase will occur.
In order to get a better feel for how the residents of Huntington feel about the fee increase a public hearing has been proposed concerning the fee.
